A Safe Fuel
Autogas is a safe, proven and reliable fuel. Thousands of vehicles (approximately 250,000) across the U.S. have already adopted this technology, partly because it is safer than many other fuels. A properly installed autogas tank can also improve the structure of a vehicle.
Autogas Tanks
- Alliance AutoGas tanks are 20 times more puncture-resistant than traditional fuel tanks. They can also withstand four times the pressure when compared to conventional gasoline vehicle fuel tanks.
- Autogas vehicle tanks are made from carbon steel under code developed by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Additional Safety Features
- Autogas has a lower flammability range than conventional gasoline, decreasing the chance of accidental combustion.
- The propane industry has incorporated into its code fueling shutdowns and electrical shutdowns on all its equipment.
- Sharp’s on-site autogas fueling stations have an automatic system shut down with a breakaway device for each station.
- Propane fueling stations also incorporate a breakaway device in the event of a pull-off.
- Propane tanks on vehicles automatically stop when full, preventing over-filling.
Nontoxic
- Unlike gasoline, diesel, methanol and ethanol, autogas is nontoxic, nonpoisonous and insoluble in water.
- Should a rare accidental release of autogas occur, it would dissipate into the atmosphere with no harmful contaminants released into the air, soil or water.
